Area Guide

The hotel is in Bur Dubai, Al Fahidi/Mankhool area. This neighborhood is the soul of the city and sits in total opposition to the hot, sterile new developments of "New Dubai." You are left here with a melting pot of cultures, mainly South Asian and Filipino, reflected by an insane density of curry houses, textile shops, and electronics stores all over the place. About a 10-minute walk brings you to what was then known as Bastakiya but is now officially referred to as Al Fahidi Historical Neighborhood: a small preserved quarter full of traditional wind-tower houses (now used as art galleries and cafes) offering one very charming glimpse into Dubai’s pre-oil past.

Its greatest asset is proximity to the area popularly known as "Little India" just behind it. Neon lights illuminate the night there as shoppers hustle for fabrics, jewelry, and watches. It is chaotic and loud but incredibly fun if you are into urban exploration. For techies, also nearby is the famous Al Ain Centre (Computer Plaza) where all computer hardware deals best in the country can be found. However, this being a mature residential and commercial district streets are narrow always congested with traffic. No wide boulevards or beach clubs here; only authentic frenetic energy of city's trading heart.

This place is safe, as is most of Dubai. The area stays lit and alive with people until very late hours but it’s an assault on the senses. The smell of grilled kebabs mingles with exhaust fumes and there’s a constant honking of horns. This is not some relaxing beach retreat-if you’re looking for manicured lawns and silence, you’ve come to the wrong neighborhood- but if you want to eat a delicious shawarma for $2 and buy a custom tailored suit within 24 hours,you are exactly in the right place.
